Joy In Living | CWBC

This month, the Christian Writers Blog Chain covers the topic of ‘Joy’ for the month of April. You can read the other posts by my fellow bloggers by following the links to the left.

April has been a chaotic bit of a month. Between the release of my romance novella, My Fair Princess, on the 13th, my husband being offered a job in North Dakota the same day, and me doing my best to persuade my company to keep me on via remote as we plan to move, it sounds as if there should be nothing but chaos. But there has been a peace and certainty through it all helping me stay strong against the panic.

Thanks to a Bible app on my phone, I have begun reading my Bible daily rather than “when I remember.” I have enrolled in a writing course through the Christian Writers Guild and have high hopes that it will help me break some bad writing habits. I have been more active in marketing and socializing, even pushing through those moments when I want to unplug and separate myself from everyone and everything. There has been joy surrounding every aspect of my life, and not just in the re-discovered wonder of plotting out stories for my waiting characters.

It is like God has offered me a different perspective, a… fuller view of life’s adventure and what it could mean to not only my own character but those around me. I see and respond to those people that have been brought into my circle of influence, and I try and be the best example I can be, understanding now the limited length of time in each situation.

Yes, the “limbo” is a challenge, but the Lord, in His wisdom, guided me through it a few times before, teaching me and showing me how to weather this storm with grace and strength. Encouraging me through words spoken by my husband commenting on how proud he is of my reaction to this tough time. There is joy in those words because I know my strength blesses my husband.

Now there is eagerness to peer ahead, to face these challenges I have willingly set. If all goes well, we will close on a house in Beulah or Hazen some time before July, I complete my writing course on time in August, and my next romance novel will release that same month.

16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours. 17 Since I know, O my God, that You try the heart and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You. 18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the [a]intentions of the heart of Your people, and direct their heart to You; (1 Chronicles 29:16-18; NASB)

What joys have you discovered this month?

A Writer’s Bucket List

I read a most excellent post by ‘The Write Practice‘ this morning titled ‘Henry Miller on How to Finish Your Novel‘. While the entire post is definitely worth a read – especially the 11 Commandments for writing – there stood out a section of the post which… well… moved me.

What Books Do You Want to Write Before You Die?

Oh my. What a question? In fact, it is so powerful a motivator that I question why it had not been asked before, especially when I know of so many power writers who passed before all of their projects were completed.

Someday, I will die, and all the novels I dreamed of writing will die with me. Therefore, what books must I complete to die satisfied?

That was the realization Joe Bunting had, Joe being the owner of ‘The Write Practice’. That stands as the statement which made me realize that we, as writers with a calling, should create a ‘Bucket List’ of the projects we feel pressed to complete before we die. Maybe we need to fan the flames of desperation to get these projects to the front of our minds? Similar to the imperative nature of evangelizing, there should be a drive within us to finish these projects. After all, aren’t we participating in another aspect of the Great Call? Aren’t we a witness to our audience?

So, I ask you, as Joe asked his readers, what books do you want to write before you die? Are the projects you currently have on your To-Do list worthy enough to be added to that list? I know a few of mine are not. This blog article has  completely altered my perspective, rightfully so. Now faced with the prospect of redefining my projects, I am reminded of the Smarter Goal List Carol Peterson encouraged us to put together in her post New Year; New You. I am also reminded of the wise saying, ‘Quality, not Quantity‘, which is not something that I have been focused on at present….

Perhaps now is the time to start?

Prayer: “Lord, I ask that you open my eyes to the end goal You have in mind for me. Fan the flames of my creative passion so that You may be glorified, others might be saved, and my heart fulfilled. Thank You for Your patience and Your grace. Amen”

Inspired Juggles

This month’s topic for the ChristianWriters Blog Chain is ‘Savor’, and while today is definitely not my day to post, my fingers continue to migrate to the ‘add new post’ link. Not only that, what has been juggling around in my head seems to follow in line with this month’s topic.

The last several weeks I have been relishing renewed inspiration and focus after a short sabbatical. I’ve not only worked on my ‘sweet & spicy’ romance My Fair Princess [it releases in April], but I have also been conspiring with my husband. What have we been plotting? Two additional installments in THE SOUL CYCLE series: Para and Meek. As mentioned in a previous post, the installments follow the main characters from To Save a Soul and Silver & Iron, but as individuals before they traveled together as comrades.

Meek, the Soul Cycle #4In fact, depending on how Para & Meek turn out, there may be a third installment entailing their first adventure as a team. Honestly, I’m looking forward to that one quite a bit. :) Of course, the hubs and I also conspired together to begin plotting out the last book in the series. Much as I would love to give you a bit of a peek inside the conflicts and angst of that book… I am practicing discretion and keeping my fingers away from those particular keys.

I thank the Lord above for reinvigorating me with the fun and expectation of projects, both old and new. It comes as a breath of fresh air, to be honest, as I had begun to wonder if my time as a writer began to wane. :) Instead I am strengthening my juggling muscles and savoring every moment of the challenge.

What about you? Are you stepping up to a challenge and feeling yourself blessed as a result?
